Meeting was called to order at 19:02
Mayor stated purpose of this meeting was a budget workshop for Council to offer input for the first draft. Discussion was held and the Town manager reviewed each line item with comment as to make up or changes.
General discussion was held pertaining to the budget.
Bernice Wilson-Kube asked that $500.00 be added for website update. It was consensus that this would be taken from miscellaneous expenses. This would include agenda and up to date minutes.
Doswell Pierce was allowed to address Council by the Mayor. Mr. Pierce alleged that the agenda has never been on the website. Note: Staff went back and confirmed that the agenda has been on the website since August.
It was also noted that the committees listed on the web were not correct. (Staff has corrected)
Council requested that the delinquent taxes be shown in the packet as a percentage.
After discussion of the meals tax by Council members, Roy Payne made the motion to move forward with the meals tax seconded by Brooks Besley. Roll call. Motion passed 6/0 with none voting in the negative.
It was also a consensus among Council that these monies would be earmarked for water and sewer improvements.
Council was reminded that on Tuesday February 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. there would be a meeting at the Jefferson Madison Regional Library in attempt to restart the Mineral Business Association.
Motion made by Roy Payne to adjourn, seconded by Roy McGeHee. Motion passed 6/0 with none voting in the negative.
